What is Power Electronics: Components of Power Electronics:

Power electronics:

Power electronics is the application of solid-state electronics to control and conversion of electrons branch of electric.

Power :- Generate Transmission Distribution

Electronics :-  Solid state devices

Electronic circuit.Signal process. (High power signal).

Contral :- Control devicer at high power Steady state characteristic Dynamic characteristics.

Majorly there are five types of power electronic circuits:

(a)Rectifiers:Converts fixed As to variable DC (Half wave and full wave rectifiers) of

 (b) Choppers: Converts Fixed DC to variable DC.

(c) Inverter - Converts DC to AC having having variable amplitude and frequency.

(d) Voltage Regulators: Converts fixed AC to Variable As at same Input frequency.

(e)Cycloconverters - Converter fixed Ad to AC with Variable frequency.

POWER DIODE:

  • In order to increase power handling capacity changer are diode fore getting done in the structure of diode.
  • Power semiconductor diode are used to perform Various operations like, rectification, free wheeling energy feedback, etc. in in power electronics applications.
  • Power diodes are PN-junction diodes, however. they have larger power handling capacity.Switching speed of power diodes to low ar is compared to that of the low power dioder.

TYPES OF POWER DIODE:

Depending on the recovery characteristic , the the techniques used for and manufacturing. power dioder are classified into three Categories:
  1. General purpose PN-Junction diode.
  2. Fast recorded diode.
  3. Schottky diode.
(1) General puspare PN-Junction Power diode:
  • There are used for the low Frequency app like rectification, due to their high revente recovery time.
  • At low operating frequencies there dioder are capable of handling currents from very low value to high values,
  • It has high recovery time it is not critically as urec. and are used in loco speed application, where recovery time is not critically
  • There dioder cover current rating Jess than In to several hundreds thousands of Ampere. with Voltage rating around sou-skv.

(2) Fast recovery diode:

There dioder have low recovery times as compared to the general purpose diode.
Therefore they are turned off more quickly and hence can be used in the high freg. applications such as dioder convertor and DC to AC converters.

(3) Schottky diode :

Schottky diode is used to eliminate or minimize the charge storage problem of a PN- junction diode.
It is done by setting up various potential with a contact between a metal or semi-condic These dioder has the rectifying chan, Similar to that of the PN junction diode, but the on state voltage drop across it is very low (0.3 to 0.4 Vik) as compared to the other diodes.
